Update: Scam Site Bid4That.net

Bid4ThatOver the past few days my site was down and I apologize for that. The downtime came shortly after I made my initial post about the scamming website Bid4That.net. It seems my site was targeted for an attack, I can only speculate as to where the attack came from but it is very coincidental. If you have not read my first post about the site. This post is more of a follow up with even more proof that something shady is going on over there.

SCAM SITE: Bid4That.net

Bid4ThatToday I received a press release notification from prMac that was telling me about a new website that was out called Bid4That. This particular site is an online auction site however it does not work like most other auction sites. I decided to check it out. After reading the Terms and Conditions I figured I would give it a shot. The way the system works is that you have to buy your bids. They sell packages of bids for different prices. As this was a test run I opted to buy the 10 pack of bids which cost $10. I looked around the site for an auction I was interested in and found an HP Laptop that was going for $0.45 and though well this is way too good to be true. Guess what! Even though they advertise that there are no reserves they do not fulfill your order when you win an auction and then pay for that item. I won the item and promptly paid for the item. A few moments later I received an email from Paypal stating that my purchase had been refunded. I emailed them asking why just to see what they would say and have had no response from them. Below is a portion of the email that prMac sent to me.

2 iPods = Kernel Panic

Until the other day the only iPod I had was the latest iPod Nano. It worked fine but when presented with the option of buying a 2G Touch pretty cheap I jumped on it. I connected it to my Mac Pro and it worked without an issue. I used it for a few days and everything was going fine. Last night my girl and I wanted to go running at the beach so I connected the iPod Nano to the Mac Pro just to charge it. As soon as I connected it I was presented with the good ol’ Kernel Panic screen. I thought this was odd so I shut the system down and restarted. This time during the boot up process it gave yet another Kernel Panic. I disconnected the iPod Nano and restarted again. Everything went fine.

TeachMeCocoa.com: KVC and Bindings

The other day Steven released another video on the TMC website. This video is all about Key Value Coding and using Bindings in your interface. I finally got the chance to watch the rest of the video this morning and I have to say that it is a great starting place if you are looking into bindings. He goes into detail about KVC and explains how it all works. I do wish however that he went into more details on the magic of Bindings and how they work behind the scenes.

There are many developers (myself included) who have not yet adopted bindings because they see them as some magical functionality. At some point I will have to read deeper about bindings and actually learn how they work so that I can use them properly in my project. I do know how to implement a table view without using bindings and I have to say… Bindings looks *much* easier to do. It was a short process for getting the data into the table view in this video tutorial. When doing all of this without bindings you need to have all the table view methods in place to return the proper data.

This is another good release from TMC so be sure to check out the KVC and Bindings video tutorial if you want to start learning about KVC or Bindings

Facebook is Crazy!

This morning I was going to create a Facebook.com account just to see the differences as I have never used that service but have used MySpace in the past. Well I went to signup and was a bit shocked when I saw this error. I will try again later but you would think a site as large as FaceBook would not have issues like this.

Review: InspectorKit 1.0 Released

The other day my friend Steven from Thoughtful Tree Software released a new version of his Inspector Framework. This new version includes both the framework and an Interface Builder Plug-in which makes it extremely easy for you to integrate this into your own projects.

After reading his blog post and watching the video that he has created it looks like a very nice addition to any application that would require an inspector style window. I might have to look at using this in my project the TomTom POI Manager. I am not yet sure what I would use this for but surely I can find a reason to use it.

Help Me: Remembering Book Title

I went to B&N last night trying to find this book to read to my step son. I did not have any luck trying to find the book because I do not know the title.

What I do remember about the book is that it was written in a journal format (boy’s diary) the boy’s father was a truck driver and not around much. The boy had problems at school with kids taking his lunch from his lunch box so he decided to make a lunchbox alarm and I believe he also used it as a door alarm.

I wish I could remember the name of this book so that I could pick up a copy. I remember reading it when I was about 8 years old so that was about 20 years ago. I read it around the time that I read pippi long stocking, and the ramona books by beverly cleary and the indian in the cupboard.

If anyone knows the title of the book please let me know. For now I have picked up the Indian in the Cupboard.

University of Iowa Farm Machine Music

So while this does not seem to be *new* it was just e-mailed to me by my parents and I had never seen it. It is an amazing piece of work.. Here is what the e-mail said about it.

This is almost unbelievable. See how all of the balls wind up in catcher cones.

This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between the Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa. Amazingly, 97% of the machines & gt; components came from
John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of Bancroft, Iowa, yes farm equipment!

It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, alignment, calibration, and tuning before filming this video but as you can see it was WELL worth the effort. It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University and is already slated to be donated to the Smithsonian.
